Aruna Gamage is a native Sinhala-speaker from Sri Lanka. He studied Theravāda Buddhism at Kelaniya (MPhil 2010) and SOAS (PhD 2019). He served as a Gonda Postdoctoral Fellow at the International Institute for Asian Studies, Leiden University (2019–2020), and currently carrying out research as an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow at the Philipps-University of Marburg, Germany, with a project on the investigation of early legal commentaries quoted in the Pāli commentary on the Vinaya or monastic law code.
