Em. prof. dr. Marc Boone is emeritus full professor of Medieval history at Ghent university. From 2012 to 2018 he resided as dean of the faculty of arts and philosophy at Ghent university. He is a member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Sciences and the Arts of Belgium, president of the commission of historical sciences of the academy, the ‘société d’histoire et d’archéologie de Gand’ and honorary president of the European association for Urban Historians. He is also a member of the International commission for Urban History. Besides these activities, prof. Boone is invited professor in Dijon, Paris and the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences sociale (Paris), Università degli Studi di Milano and Francqui professor at ULB (Brussels).
Prof. Boone has published several monographs on the history of urban societies in the (late) medieval Low Countries and articles in several journals and collections of essays. He is editor of the series ‘Studies in European Urban History’ (Brepols editors, Turnhout). At the occasion of his retirement a collection of his essays was published: City and State int the medieval Low Countries. Collected studies by Marc Boone (Turnhout, Brepols, 2021).
