Max Deeg is Professor in Buddhist Studies at Cardiff University, Wales (UK). He is specializing on the history of Buddhism, particularly on the transfer of Buddhism from India to China. In the last couple of years, he has been working on a new translation and commentary of Xuanzang’s “Record of the Western Regions of the Great Tang” (Datang Xiyu ji). This research led to his cooperation with the Bihar Heritage Development Society on the multi-disciplinary project “The Xuanzang Trail” which tries to trace Buddhist sites mentioned in the “Record”. Deeg’s publications include a (German) translation of the Lotus-sūtra and a monograph on Buddhist foundation legends.
