Prof. Dr. Robert J. Zydenbos is a professor of Indology at the Institute of Indology and Tibetology of the University of Munich (LMU München), Germany, where his main teaching and research interests are Indian philosophy and religion as well as the Sanskrit and Kannada languages. Within the area of philosophy and religion, he has mainly concentrated on the predominant traditions in Karnataka: Digambara Jainism, Vīraśaivism and the Vaiṣṇavism of Madhvācārya. To personally experience the practice of Indian worldviews, he lived for many years in Karnataka in India, where he also wrote a doctoral dissertation about modern Kannada literature, and in 2020 he published his A Manual of Modern Kannada.
